TSR(Together for Safer Roads)

TSR Annual conference was held in United States in 2016
On 2016 June 13th to 14th, Together for Safer Roads (TSR) held their annual conference in the United States. During this two day conference, 45 representatives from different organizations as well as 8 scholars from TSR academic panel gathered together to not only review TSR’s past year production records, but also discussed the current global transportation safety situation, shared some of the research results of transportation safety and proposed future improvement plans regarding transportation safety. Professor Xuesong Wang of Tongji University, also the director from Joint International Research Laboratory of Transportation Safety, presented during this conference as one of the two newly added members.
According to United Nation’s World Health Organization, deaths due to traffic accidents are ever increasing every year, which has already become the 8th leading factor of death. Following this trend, in 2030, it will overtake AIDS and diabetes as the 5th leading factor of death. On top of that, traffic accidents cost around 500 billion dollars per year, accounting for 1-3% of the global GDP. Therefore, actions must be taken to improve transportation safety.
TSR (Together for Safer Roads) launched in November 2014 in United Nations, hope with the effect of international alliance, to reduce the rate of traffic accidents to the point of that it is no longer one of the leading cause of death. With the mission in mind to create a world that has a completely safe transportation system. The alliance currently has 16 famous multi-national corporations. There are more than 3 million employees in these corporations, as well as a distribution of franchise and enterprise over 200 countries, and more than 4.8 billion miles of total business trips travelled.
Professor Xuesong Wang, as an expert in this field, reviewed TSR’s achievements in Shanghai in the past year during this conference. TSR in China introduced the mission: safer roads, safer vehicles and safer users. Starting from 2015, Joint International Research Laboratory of Transportation Safety as the academic guidance organization, partnered with TSR to collectively improve transportation safety in Shanghai. Together with the laboratory, TSR developed a plan proposal for the upcoming two years. The proposal especially stressed two main improvement projects that they were going to heavily focus on: safety measures taken upon accident-prone roads and driver safety education based on analyzing drivers’ behaviors. In addition, these two organizations are also continuously developing transportation safety education programs in different countries. During this conference, professor Wang out the transportation safety problems in China, and proposed that by developing useful accident recording database, designing roads that are strictly follow the assessment standards, establishing vehicle safety design and driver assistance system, and last but not the least, promoting transportation safety education and awareness. All of the above mentioned methods can be applied to improve transportation safety. This annual conference has also taken the initiative in making the work plans for the next two years. TSR will mainly focus on participating and developing transportation safety events that are going to be held globally. TSR hopes that this alliance members and organizations come together to publically promote transportation safety as an intellectual private sector leader, by providing global solutions that are going to reduce road accident casualties.
