The objectives of the project include studying the potential markets of various new energy vehicles, demand and consumer behavior, NEV transportation infrastructure and operation management, policy, vehicle technology, and life-cycle analysis of energy, environment & cost. Through urban design, traffic system design, traffic management policy, and consumer guide, NEVs will be promoted and used on Chongming Island as a demo project for the purpose of sustainable development. This can accumulate experiences on policy, planning, management and marketing of NEV use, as well as can provide technical support for establishing policies in national energy, environment, industry, and transportation strategy development.
This project will be conducted with the support of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission (STCSM) and Chongming District Government. Tongji University will cooperate with the University of California-Davis, who has the experience of promoting new energy vehicles (NEVs) in California.
